Benefits of houseplants – AND THERE ARE MANY!

How many of us have interior house plants in our homes? Reluctant to buy indoor plants because of space prioritising, cleaning issues and so on? Did you know that indoor air space is up to 10 times more poluted than outdoor? Wouldn’t you like that to change so that you and your family could live as healthily as possible within your homes?

I live in a 3 bed house that is currently dominated by my daughters toys and other ‘super important’ possessions..which inevitably accumulate a heap of dust and hidden muck..(ie:left over pieces of toast under the toy box and half a pot of spilt talc, which we never use anyway but somehow still exists tipped over tops and poured in shoes..evil talc) so now that summer is on it’s way it’s great to have the windows open more often and some fresh air circulating. I always clean with non toxic products and where I can make my own I will but, how clean can a house be, especially air wise? And considering how much time people do spend inside their homes (ie: people working from home, families with kids etc) keeping our air space clean is essential and detrimental for good health in SO many ways you’d be surprised than merely investing in a house plant could be the answer there!

Who knew they could be just SO beneficial? Check out some facts below that will make you head straight for the garden centre..amazing!

Humans have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years. We evolved surrounded with plants. Our environment and lifestyle has changed dramatically in relevantly recent years; however, genetically, we have not!

“The indoor environment is 5 to 10 times more polluted than the exterior

Interior plants improve air quality and help us feel good

Plants have been proven to remove airborne harmful contaminants.
Most people spend the majority of time indoors at home or work. Air conditioning, improved insulation, and energy-saving all reduce air exchange in buildings, so we breathe the same air again and again. Because the modern internal environment is virtually hermetically sealed and the construction materials used, modern synthetic furnishings, computers, electrical equipment, and everyday household products such as cleaning material, can produce harmful substances that are trapped inside the building. These all contribute to the well recognised ‘Sick building syndrome’ Polluted indoor air, contaminated by volatile organic compounds (VOCs), are a major cause of headaches, nausea, sore & itchy eyes, loss of concentration and other ‘Sick building symptoms’.
The simple addition of interior plants is a natural way to help remove these pollutants significantly.

Humidity is another important and often underestimated factor in human health. When humidity levels are too low, individuals are more likely to develop viral infections; when humidity is too high, vulnerability to other disease increases. Plants tend to control humidity to within the optimum range for human health.

Plants absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. This obviously reduces your carbon footprint but also the increased oxygen level refreshes the air -and you! – leading to increased concentration and productivity (in various studies between 10%-15% increase).

There is a wealth of scientific study into the beneficial effects of live plants in the interior environment including a large NASA programme. For more detail of this and other independent research refer to:

Other Benefits of Interior Plants

As well as purifying the air we breathe the presence of indoor plants have also been shown to have many other beneficial effects, details of this research can be found on the links above. These benefits include:

  • Increased positive feelings and reduced feelings of anxiety, anger and sadness.
  • Reduction of sound levels
  • Reduction of stress levels
  • Control of humidity to the within the optimum levels for human health
  • Cooling effect
  • Absorption of carbon dioxide and emission of oxygen refreshing the air
  • Improved concentration levels leading to improved productivity particularly with those working with computers
  • Reduction of absenteeism in the workplace
  • Faster recovery from mental tiredness
  • Interiors feel spacious, looked after and clean
  • People prefer to occupy rooms that contain plants
  • Improved image – interiors are perceived as “more expensive”

So, all the facts in proof, get yourself down to a garden centre (or another great place to find a bargain is a car boot sale..they always have loads) and invest in a house plant for your home and family today!

Here is a great selection of indoor house plants that you could chose from, ranging from small to large ones depending on available space..Hope it’s inspiring!

Indoor Yukka’s, Aloe vera plants, Agave geminiflora, Devil’s backbone, rubber plants, Olive balls, peace lily, Phoenix Roebellini palm, Song of India plant and SO MANY MORE..see images of these below x

Your green home! It’s easy to clean green and it’s SO much better for you and your home!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Wow, I’m quite shocked! After a recent survey I held regarding the topic ‘GREEN CLEANING‘, so many of you had absoloutely NO idea that the vast majority of household products we use on a daily basis to ‘clean’ our homes are full of toxins, petro-pharmaceuticals and parabens that are SO harmful to our detrimental health and wellbeing.

Let me start this post by first of all stating that, while I promote ‘THE GREEN LIVING I am not one of these people that smell of Patchouli or refuse to wear shoes in summer…I am a very normal person that simply wants the best for my family’s health and wellness and while I don’t really like the smell of patchouli, in particular, I have to say I would pick it over the smell of bleach any day…So, in a very modern way (Let’s all lose the controversy towards green living because it’s not wierd, it’s actually very normal..just needs a push), I have binned all my cleaning products and bought or made my own in a bid to protect my family from harmful toxins and chemicals.

The majority of any pharmaceutical product wether it be medicinal or domestic is IN FACT plant based or in natural state or form before it becomes synthesized and tampered with in order to create BULK preservatives + harmful toxic products we buy because most of the time, we are ignorant to what is actually in them. If the supermarket sells them, they must be OK, right? WRONG! Where a buck can be made, anythings ok…So, why then don’t we just stick to the basics..the simple ingredients that we know don’t cause harm and in actual fact, DO A BETTER JOB?

I joined pinterest and found some awesome recipes for DIY cleaning products that were totally natural so, I thought I’d give them a go…Who knew grouting your bathroom with bicarb (baking soda) could actually be MORE effective and easier to use than the terrifying products you find on most shelves in the stores? And by mixing white vinegar, lemon juice and tea tree oil (that simple) you have an AMAZING surface cleanser! I mixed the cleanser with some bicarb and gave my oven the once over (and it literally was the first time I have cleaned the oven in 3 was BAD!) and it left it SPARKLING! I’m not even kidding that it has done 10 times the job half the products I’ve ever tried have failed at..and the best thing, I didn’t feel like my lungs had taken a beating after using my homemade sprays and scrubs! They are BRILLIANT. So, that’s my new thing now and I can’t stop cleaning it’s too exciting to use them knowing they’re not harming my family!

Next on the list, I decided to give the ECOVER dish washer tablets a try. £1.20 more expensive than the supermarkets own brand but I made up for that with swapping my laundry detergent from Ariel to SIMPLY and saved myself £2.10..anyway, the dishwasher tablets: I usually use 2 just to get grease totally off…I used 2 of the ECOVER ones the first use and not only did the load come out sparkling but so did the machine! Absoloutely amazing! So the next use, I only used 1 tablet and again, I got the same results! It’s a no brainer…I am never switching! These tablets are incredible and well worth the money! It makes you feel brilliant knowing that everything you’re using is doing your family good and that it’s actually leaving your home cleaner than every before! So being at home then of course feels better! WONDERFUL!

So, the Simply sensitive washing tablets: £2.10 cheaper than what I’ve always used and in cute eco packaging, fully recycleable..First load was kind of a mucky one and where my old tablets would still leave stains, so did these ones, so that was sort of expected but the smell of the clothes afterwards was a really pleasant SOAP smell. No wierd overbearing add on fragrances that give you a headache, they just smell ‘SIMPLY’ nice. Like clean laundry should! And after drying they are soft and nice on skin! I am adding on a NETMUMS link here from the forum discussing the simply active and sensitive range for any of you that would like to read more reviews or see feedback to see for yourselves! : WASHING POWER FORUM: SIMPLY ACTIVE

As far as the ECOVER range goes, I have used their washing up liquid now for some months and actually, I’m still on my first bottle, its that good for value and have to say again, it’s really lovely! I bought the grapefruit and green tea one (Of course I tea + me = my fave thing ever!) but I’m also told by a family member that the camomile and marigold one is also fantastic! Not yet tried their surface sprays but as I’m in love with my vinegar teatree spray, I think I’ll stick to homemade (and just to confirm, when it dries it does not smell like vinegar at all) And another ECOVER product I have to rave about…the toilet cleanser! No more bad bleachy smells and my loo is insanely clean! It has to be, I have a 2 year old thats fingers are constantly down it or all over the seat so keeping it clean is essential! But no more harmful chemicals there and I’m so pleased about that! One trick I heard from my sister that really works is cleaning your toilet bowl with coke. Buy in some cheap coke and pour a can down the toilet, leave an hour and then scrub with the brush! Leaves it ten times cleaner than scary products. And for wiping the seat (I have to say as I’m typing this I am having a giggle…eeeeurgh!) but yes, continuing, again with the vinegar and lemon! Wipes away all the germs! All these natural cleansers also help to build up your families immunities. Harsh chemicals will kill your bodies natural capabilities to ward off germs and diseases because they are too harsh for the body to accept, so you are doing you and your family the world of good by swicthing to natural means! My summary so far on all the products tried and tested is a big, massive WHOPPING thumbs up for each and every one of them! They work a treat and are GREAT value for money!

So, where can you buy them from? All supermarkets these days have a select few ECOVER products but it’s actually cheaper to go direct to the ECOVER site where you can buy bulk offers for much less. check them out @ ECOVER PRODUCTS + OFFERS. The SIMPLY washing detergent can be purchased at the supermarket as can your ingredients for your DIY cleansers and sprays..Alternatively, one of my favourite places for ‘alternative’ products is .

Let’s turn what people consider ‘ALTERNATIVE’ to be what is the norm and wipe out those nasty products we have let lead unfairly for so many years..Transform the way you clean your home so that you can live in a cleaner, greener, happier one! Once you make the change, you’ll never look back!

Spring is here! Get GARDENING! Tips, inspiration and more..enjoy!

So, one of my new found hobbies and something I have to honestly state I was never very good at before but have now mastered..GARDENING! This year my family and I have decided with the Olympics kicking off and insanely busy work schedules our summer holiday shall be spend in the UK and I believe it only fair in that case to really spoil my garden for some maximum use! Here are a few spring gardening tips and some excellent plants you can get creative with to give your garden the look it needs so yOu can really enjoy being outdoors this spring and summer!..And for those of you familiar with my blog….outdoors and sunlight = fresh air and Vitamin D which aids depression, skin conditions, positive mental attitude, insomnia and much more to make you feel great! So..get outdoors and get gardening!

Winter is gone and spring is right here. Spring is considered busy season for gardeners. Cleaning, pruning and planting is done is spring for having bountiful garden all summer long. It’s not an easy task though its inexpensive, so make sure you only perform those activities which will give you more benefits in your garden.

6 Important gardening tips for spring are as follows:

You must clean your garden first. There can be debris left on your lawn is there was any snow in winter season. If there was snow in winter season rake up any debris left. Make sure that your soil thaw out the mulch. Afterwards put down new mulch but only after you see that you soil has thawed and warmed up. Also keep in mind that mulch stays away from the base of the plants.

Look out for the repairs in your yard. Cracks and other damages to fences and pathways can be cause due winter cold and frost. Also if your planning to paint your fences or pathways go ahead before the hot summer weather hits.

Pruning and trimming must be done in spring season but before that you must wait until the trees and shrubs in your garden have started growing new leaves. You can easily sight the dead and damaged branches. After sighting you can easily distinguish the dead and damaged branches with alive and healthy ones and you can easily get rid of the dead and damaged branches.

Another important tip for spring gardening is composting. For providing more nutrients to your soil you must add compost to it. If you have compost pile from last year you can spread composted soil on the top of your garden and if you don’t have compost pile yet you can start a new one.

For faster and stronger growth of plant make sure that they are properly placed in nutrient rich topsoil. Stabilize new plants with the help of stakes. Also keep in mind keeping new plants well watered. Keeping them well watered for two weeks will establish them in their new home quickly.

Cleaning Bird Feeders:

Last major tip for spring gardening you must make sure that bird feeders are properly cleaned. Before refilling them you must check them for any damages. If you have wood bird feeders damaged you can fix them but if you have plastic and glass feeders damaged then throw them out and replace them with new ones. You must take every step for avoiding injuries to the birds. After replacing old one with new one or cleaning the old one add fresh bird seeds to the feeder.

Above mentioned are 6 important tips for spring gardening. Follow these tips in spring and discover a healthy and beautiful garden in the upcoming summer season.

Some great idea’s for plants and accessories…

Clematis, Hydrengas, Dahlia’s, Lavender, Laritis, Foxgloves, Poppies + other mixed bedding plants, Blossom trees, weeing willow, water features, bird feeders, eating tables, sun loungers and herb gardens are ALL what I hope to be present in my garden this year! AND THEN SOME….So, I have my Clematis climbers to hide ugly walls and add some colour and personality, Dahlia’s because they are simply stunning, my bedding plants to feature my bedding section throughout spring and summer, Lavender bushes to add the Meditteranean feel and fragrance..(I already have 4 large bushes I LOVE), Foxgloves because they are exquisite, Weeping willow because its already there and I LOVE the romance of it and accessories, just to tie it all together in peace and harmony!

So, Here are some images of all of the above (Already grown and divine..I have the hard job of getting it to look like this but that;s half the fun) and hopefully you can all get some inspiration for your outdoor spaces too! Enjoy!

Essential oils that are made for seduction:

Essential oils have the quality to improve circulation, promote hormonal balance or increase hormone production, or affect the nervous system. Another notable characteristic of these essential oils are to influence the state of mind and the emotions. It helps induce warmth, intimacy, enforce spirituality and feeling of euphoria.

Aphrodisiac are substances believed to influence increase sensual and intimate feeling towards anybody. Aromatherapy has a variety of essential oil products that is claimed to have this effect; According to Cooksley, Patchouli, Myrrh and Ginger are few of those that exhibit this quality. The use of these essential oils will release any inhibitions increasing intimacy.

The sense of Olfaction plays a major role in increasing sensual experience. It is also noted that decreased sexual interest is due to the hypo production of the necessary hormones by the pituitary gland.

This master gland is the one that helps regulate the production of all the other hormones in the body. Essential oils like Clary sage, Ylang-ylang, Patchouli and Jasmine have the quality to stimulate the pituitary gland. Aphrodisiacs stimulate the brain part that is the seat of all emotions and carries the level of intimacy to a new level, a higher mental state beyond just physical connection and pleasure.

There are essential oils that deliberately raises the body temperature and aphrodisiacs does that. With a similar effect you can hone the right warm up before a stage for the perfect performance is set. Stimulating scents such that induces increase in libido are those oils with rich, warm mostly originated from certain flora and spices. and here are few aphrodisiacs essential Oils that we know:

  • Clary sage , This has a sensual property and compound similar to estrogen that helps regulate hormonal balance. Notably this oil has a euphoric property as well.
  • Jasmine , The scent of this flora is seductive, warm and inviting. This oil has been used by Indians to rouse sexual feeling.
  • Rose , This flower being notably appealing to women triggers a response of desiring and romance.
  • Ylang ylang , This oil is extracted from a flower native to the Philippines. The petals of the flower is scattered on newlywed’s bed. The scent of this sweet and exotic flower rids inhibition and calls forth desire.
  • Patchouli This has a sensual property that helps ease felling of anxiety
  • Vanilla, The scent of vanilla invites warmth and passion. This specific type of aroma also has properties similar to aphrodisiacs.
  • Ginger, The ginger essential oil is warm and soothing. Also with the right application, it promotes proper blood circulation.
  • Sandalwood A perfect blend to Ylang ylang. This having reputed to be an aphrodisiac gives an exotic atmosphere favorable for making-love.

These aphrodisiacs essential Oils may be used for massages. Massage intensifies romance due of contact and the stimulating scents used. Any of these oils may be infused with carrier oil then applied as a to skin for that purpose.

A well-rounded aphrodisiac is well balanced and is carefully constructed considering the user’s preference in intensity and combination. All these factors melted together will create the perfect ambiance and mind state when love-making is your end goal.

If dilution is too much it may result to a loss in interest or decreased intensity in the experience. If the essential oil proportion is too great it can irritate and may result to repulsion instead of intimate contact.

Jasmine absolute is one of the most preferred perfume additives because of its erogenous effect to the human psyche. Similar to this is ambrette and angelica. Aphrodisiac effects can be attained with the use of essential oils due of its influences to the emotional and mind state.

How to use aphrodisiacs essential Oils

We communicate by touch in many ways we barely notice. The use of essential oils implored by the sense of touch through baths (sauna, Jacuzzi, shower), and massages are few of the great ways to enjoy its benefits.

Other than massage there are various other ways that these oils may be used:

  • Candles
  • Burners
  • Bath oils

For inhalation. Before going to sleep you may also sprinkle a couple of drops of your desired essential oils on bed sheets and also you can utilize candles and other diffuser types to apply these natural gifts.

Using aphrodisiacs essential Oils for bath:

Cooksley devised 2 bath formulas that will encourage intimacy and increase intensity of attraction:

    • Love Potion Bath is a blend of essential oils; a drop of sandalwood, 2 drops of clary sage and three drops of ylang-ylang. You can use candles to set the ambiance as a stage in preparation for an intense passionate love making.
  • Nostalgia Bath (good for Baby boomers) is a blend of essential oils consisting of 3 drops of patchouli and 4 drops of Ylang-ylang. You may also light some patchouli incense to add to the candles you already have placed as an added stimulant.

or if you want to use singly, you may add any of those aphrodisiacs essential Oils above to warm water with five to ten drops. And on the tub you may scatter petals as an added effect.

Using aphrodisiacs essential Oils for massage:

For massages here is a very suitable formula of essential oil blend that will inspire intimate contact. This recipe is for a full body massage and the dilution of the essential oil is at 2%. The essential oil to be used in this formula must be warmed first to increase absorbency.

4 formula of essential oil blends as Aphrodisiac:

    • First is 6 ounces of any carrier oil. Ten drops of each- Jasmine and Mandarin essential oils and then 5 drops of nutmeg essential oil.
    • Another formula consists of 4 tablespoon of sweet almond oil as the carrier oil, you can also use safflower oil. 10 drops of Sandal wood essential oil, 4 drops of clary sage essential oil and then 6 drops of ylang-ylang essential oil.
    • In 50 ml carrier oil, like apricot, grapeseed or sweet almond oil infuse rose or ylang ylang, and bergamot essential oils with five drops each and then ten drops of sandalwood essential oil.
  • In 50 ml of carrier oil infuse clary sage, ylang ylang with two drops each and patchouli and sandalwood with five drops each.

Mix the ingredients in a shallow dish. This massage blend may be used on all the body parts except for the face and the genital area. The topical application must be with small amounts only.

Using aphrodisiacs essential Oils for oil burner:

For oil burners we recommend a blend of sweet orange, ylang ylang and sandal wood that may be diffused into any room with a sprayer after diluted in water. And this blend is perfect for the moments you want memorable and so you will need to forge an ambiance that encourages contact and the passion of sex.

Not losing the sense of arousing once sexual desire is a key to a lasting relationship. It keep the attraction alive and with the use of aphrodisiac essential oils it may just be the best way to enjoy that mutual feeling of happiness, a bonus of extraordinary fusion of nature’s gift and the ultimate expression of your need for each other.

So, I’m a big music lover and my husband and I have very VERY different takes and tastes on what we like but I’m wise enough to appreciate what’s good for what occasion, even if I wouldn’t specifically chose to listen to a certain type of music doesn’t mean I won’t give it a chance or allow it be the leading part of our event. So, please appreciate that music you don’t already have on your playlists could be the perfect accompaniment to your perfect evening..Think: romance..Think: Soft, soulful vocals and rythmic instrumentals that relax and harmonize your environment!

Want  to know how you can become more eco-friendly in your home? Decrease your waste volume? Reduce your carbon footprint?

Nowadays we are more environmentally aware and many households are looking at ways in which they can reduce their carbon footprint and become greener.

If you are one of these people, here are ten top tips to make your home greener and help the planet, teach you to start to recycle your waste and home contents and reduce the amount of waste your household produces:

Tip 1 – Reduce the use of paper and plastics

Households should look at ways to reduce the amount of paper and plastics used. Ways in which this can be achieved is by making relatively small changes such as buying reusable shopping bags and cancelling paper bills and opting for email/online bills instead.

Tip 2 – Use environmentally-friendly cleaning products

Many household cleaners contain ingredients which can harm the environment and it is recommended that to be greener that you swap to less harmful products instead. There are a number of green cleaning products on the market or you could make your own cleaning supplies from natural ingredients like vinegar or lemon.

Tip 3 – Use energy efficient lightbulbs

Lightbulbs can account for up to 10% of a households electricity use and therefore households should ensure that their lightbulbs are energy efficient.

Tip 4 – Purchase energy saving appliances

When an electrical appliances needs replacing in a home it is suggested that the appliance is replaced with an energy saving one. Energy saving appliances may cost more money but they are a worthwhile investment as they can save you money on your yearly electricity bill.

Tip 5 – Watch your water consumption

Households should consider how they use water within the home and look to change their usage behaviour as small changes can make a big difference. For example, households should consider turning taps off when they are brushing their teeth for instance and take shorter showers to save water. Households can also look to employ water saving devices such as low-flow toilets.

Tip 6 – Unplug and turn-off electrical appliances

Most homes will leave electrical appliances plugged in and to save energy and be greener it is recommended that these are turned off when not in use. This also means unplugging phone chargers etc. which many of us leave plugged in as this waste electricity as well. Also, turning off any lights in the home when they are not in use is important.

Tip 7 – Turn down temperature controls

Households should turn down their temperature thermostat by 1 degree as this could save them both energy and money, just by making this simple change.

Tip 8 – Review your fridge freezer settings

It is recommended that homes get a fridge and freezer thermometer as you can review settings to ensure you are getting the most energy efficiency from the appliance.

Tip 9 – Make your garden greener

Gardens should make use of natural fertilizers and not use chemical ones which are bad for the environment.

Tip 10 – Look to use renewable energy sources

If a household is looking to implement a drastic change to become more environmentally friendly then it should consider switching to a renewable energy such as solar or wind. Even though this is a big initial outlay the money saved in the long-term is worthwhile and the energy is eco-friendly.

The following tips highlight that it doesn’t take much effort to become more environmentally-friendly and that small changes can make a huge difference in becoming greener and improving your homes carbon footprint.

I know it’s not a time that everyone enjoys, but for those of you that do and that would like some last minute inspiration, this post is a visual delight of vintage bauble arrangements, table centrepiece ideas, christmas mantlepieces, fruit garlands, fireplaces and ornaments that will make your home look and feel like true christmas!
Starting off the inspiration, here’s a really simple christmas biscotti recipe that can kick start your festive decorating extravaganza (So that once your house is blitzed to the max with christmas everything) you can sit back with a big hot cocoa and some of these sweet spicy biscuits and start your christmas holiday!

Fruity Christmas biscotti

The perfect make-ahead gift, these will keep for up to a month after baking and look really impressive

  • 350g plain flour , plus extra for rolling
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp mixed spice
  • 250g golden caster sugar
  • 3 eggs , beaten
  • coarsely grated zest 1 orange
  • 85g raisins
  • 85g dried cherries
  • 50g blanched almonds
  • 50g shelled pistachios

  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Line 2 baking sheets with baking paper. Put the flour, baking powder, spice and sugar in a large bowl, then mix well. Stir in the eggs and zest until the mixture starts forming clumps, then bring the dough together with your hands – it will seem dry at first but keep kneading until no floury patches remain. Add the fruit and nuts, then work them in until evenly distributed.
  2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into 4 pieces. With lightly floured hands, roll each piece into a sausage about 30cm long. Place 2 on each tray, well spaced apart. Bake for 25-30 mins until the dough has risen and spread and feels firm. It should still look pale. Remove from the oven, transfer to a wire rack for a few mins until cool enough to handle, then turn down the oven to 140C/fan 120C/gas 1.
  3. Using a bread knife, cut into slices about 1cm thick on the diagonal, then lay the slices flat on the baking sheets. The biscuits can be cooled and frozen flat on the sheet at this point, then bagged and frozen for up to 2 months. Bake for another 15 mins (20 mins if from frozen), turn over, then bake again for another 15 mins until dry and golden. Tip onto a wire rack to cool completely, then store in an airtight tin for up to one month, or pack into boxes or cellophane bags if giving as gifts straightaway.

Woods of Harrogate – a luxurious bit of decadence..

After a week of anti-biotics and night sweats (my daughter with tonsilitis, not me) sad I know, but I was really excited about giving our beloved fine quality bed sheets a super clean and wow, last night was like sleeping on a cloud in an aroma heaven! So so soft, it had me wake up and get straight onto the Woods of Harrogate website..ok, they are insanely expensive goods but for those of you that can afford it, you do right! For those of you that can’t, join my club and wish you could!

Their products are pure and utter high quality luxury from a range of 16 or so designers and collections! 5 years ago, when my husband and I first started dating we took a trip to Madrid and I splashed out on some egyptian cotton bedsheets from their Vaughan collection shop in Madrid and to this very day they are our best, most elegant sheets that are as pristine now as they were when we first used them! Quality that lasts, so while its a cost, its one that has been truly worth while. And ALWAYS guarantees a great nights sleep!

Anyway, their linens, gift items and so on are really incredible and they have a summer sale now on, so check them out!

And while we’re on the topic of quality fabrics, I have to upload these images from Pierre Frey’s Paris Savouir faire  collection that was exhibited in New York…Just for a bit of inspration!

In May 2010, their New York showroom hosted an exhibition of orginal artwork and textiles dating from 1935 to 1955.

Pierre Frey archivist Sophie Rouart was in New York from Paris for the installation and events. The works were created by artists, painters, and designers of the time who Pierre Frey, the founder, worked with to develop the creative and lively prints that would become his legacy.

The exhibition containing 45 examples of textiles, drawings, and paintings was influenced by two main artistic styles: Neo-Medievalism and Surrealism. Designs are by talented artists such as Jean Chatanay, Janine Janet, Picard Le Doux, Jean-Denis Malcles, and Ken Scott.

DIY wigwam play tents for kids – SO much fun!

Another rainy day and with all the reading thats been going on in this house I thought my little girls would LOVE to have her very own reading den to snuggle up in. So, fun DIY project one of the day commences and we are about to make a wigwam tent in her room with flag poles, ribbons and tons of cushions and throws! Set the tone indiana style! These retail for £60 + and they’re so so so easy to make if you’ve some old plain sheets kicking around -save yourself some money and get creative! Your kids will love them!

Instructions as follows:

  • Take all six bamboo poles in your hand at once. Wrap three rubberbands around the top of the poles about four inches down. Stand the poles up and separate them so they stand alone in a teepee shape.
  • Lay the canvas fabric out flat. Fold it in half lengthwise. Then fold in half diagonally so it forms a triangle. With a fabric marker or pencil draw a half-circle on the top of the triangle. Draw a matching smaller half-circle at the bottom.

  • Cut along the lines you drew for the half-circles. Cut away the excess fabric. Unfold the fabric and lay out flat. Decorate the canvas fabric with paint as you wish. Let the paint dry.

  • Drape the fabric over the bamboo posts and position so it fits all the way around. Use straight pins to hold in place. Measure eight inches up from the bottom of the fabric and place a straight pin in place to mark the spot. Do this for the material along all six posts. Remove the fabric from the posts and place on a flat surface. Sew plastic rings into place with embroidery floss where the straight pins were placed.

  • Measure down an inch from the top edge of the teepee fabric and an inch inward and make a mark with a fabric pencil. Make a total of six marks two inches apart down the side of the teepee. Repeat on the opposite side of the teepee entrance flap. These marks are for the grommets.

  • Cut the holes for the grommets and set in place. Lace ribbon through the grommet holes. Place the fabric over the bamboo poles. Stick the bottom of the bamboo poles through the plastic rings on the inside of the canvas fabric. Tighten the ribbon and tie in a bow to hold the fabric in place.

And this is the one we are hoping to model:

A light obsession – everyone should have one

I have been slightly obsessed for a while with those arched floor lamps with the great big metallic dome shades that just look like they tie the room together in such a sophisticated way, though wondering if they would pull off any room or does it have to be one of those grandiose rooms that we’re build purposefully for those lamps? Who cares, I want one! So I started an image search for the exact one I wanted, and found it in the room I also want! Tea cup candles and bedding

As summer approaches, I am pleased to have found some new and incredibly good quality aromatherapy oils that are the perfect mix for my 100% soy wax blended candles. Yesterday I spent the afternoon gathering my collection of vintage tea cups (of which there are many) and have started creating some beautiful gift pieces. They really are the ideal tea party piece and make excellent gifts for hen parties, showers and girly gatherings! Even if vintage isn’t really your style, these make really cute garden candles for spring /summer time and for evening centre pieces with some beautiful flowers..have a look…hope you get inspired!

Honeysuckle and lavender scented set of 4 pale yellow china pieces:

Violet, Jasmin and rose scented 2 set gold rimmed floral piece, with my little heart tie to top it off!

And here are some design ideas that are easy to implement and SUPER impressive!

As far as I’m concerned, colour is a fantastic thing BUT the old rules of feng shui do state that, a bedroom should be a bedroom, meaning that minimal attention needs to be placed on having anything other than a bed, side tables and beautifully lined curtains. As we spend quite literally a third of our lifetime in bed, it really is essential to pay serious attention to not only the decor but the quality of the sheets and sets, pilllows, mattress, the time it takes to prepare our beds before sleep and after and ensure that while we are tucked up in bed, we can relax and unwind as peacefully as possible so…a resting sanctuary it NEEDS to be. That said, white, clean, fresh, crisp and inviting linen and decor is a must!

Textured fabrics, quilted blankets,  a design that matches the walls and curtains so the room ties together and an aray of pillows, fabrics and puffs are ideal ways to create and set the feel you need in a bedroom. Additional to that, open a window, light a candle or simply just switch off the light and sink into a dreamy little sleep! have some excellent sets of Egyptian cotton sheets and cases and are also a great place to find small trinket extra’s if you do need to add display to your room. Other Companies include (Some really great deals on quality brands) and for ORGANIC cotton (My fave) check out (They have some DIVINE collections and it’s pure quality)

My favourite WHITE collections

French girly touch!

And some more divine bedding (some in colour) to get you excited for sleepy time:
